The Red Lip Crew

REAL WOMEN over 40 wearing their favorite shade of red Lipstick

Facing Forty - Red Lip Crew

Since the pandemic, shopping for makeup is not as fun as it used to be. Gone for now are the days where you could visit Sephora and “play” with makeup. In my opinion, ordering makeup online is not nearly as fun as walking the Sephora aisles and discovering new items. I miss seeing the products first-hand. How many times have you ordered a blush or lipstick online only to find out the color looks way different in person? Or maybe you are feeling daring and want to buy a bold shade of lipstick. As you are scroll through the images, your excitement fades because that daring lipstick shade is only featured on young models. None of them seem relatable to you. You begin to think “maybe I am too old to pull off that lip color?” At Facing Forty, I am here to show you that you can wear whatever you want and you are not alone!

Choose your crew!

Welcome to a segment I call “Choose Your Crew.” Here you will find a group of real women in their forties wearing a featured makeup product. As a woman in her forties, I want women in my age category to become more visible on social media, especially in brand advertising. I want women who visit the Facing Forty blog or its Instagram page to see other forty-something women who are relatable and join us in growing our community. Meet the women of the “Red Lip Crew.” Red lipstick makes a statement. It tells people to look up and notice you. The right shade of red lipstick can give you confidence. It’s an instant mood lifter. Red lipstick makes your face appear brighter and more awake. It’s an easy way to feel more put together, especially if you have been working from home. Some women love it. Some women hate it. Most of us spend a lifetime trying to figure out which shade looks best on us. All of these lovely ladies took a selfie wearing their favorite red lipstick. As you will see, none of us are wearing the same shade. That goes to show you how many red lipstick options are available. There is literally a color for everyone! Interested in one of the featured products? The websites are linked to the shade names.

Still not sure how to pick the right color for you? Let me suggest the shade I am wearing in my photo called “Red For Me” by Maybelline. Maybelline formulated this particular shade so it would look flatteringly on all skin tones. Fun fact: I participated in a Maybelline research test a few years ago. Maybelline hired a group of makeup artists to give feedback on how two different lipstick shades looked on various test models. We must have tested these shades over 100 women in a single day. All of the test models were real women of different ethnicities and skin tones. Not only was it a fun workday, but it showed me how committed Maybelline is to making color cosmetics flattering for all skin tones.

I love my friends for participating in the “Red Lip Crew!” I would say that I owe them my firstborn child, but that ship has definitely sailed away. :) Did you find your new favorite red lipstick? Show me and join the crew! Take a selfie wearing your favorite shade of red and post it on IG. Tag @FacingForty and use hashtag #redlipcrew and #facingforty. Have an idea for the next crew? Leave a comment below. I think eyebrow products might be my next featured crew segment. There are so many eyebrow products on the market; pencils, pens, creams, powders, etc. I would love to know how real women are filling in their brows. How about you?
